The broom is a symbol of the union of masculine energies (the phallic handle) and feminine energies (the birch used for the bristles is thought of as having a feminine energy) and is often used as a tool for cleansing and purifying a space before a ritual. The traditional witch's broom was made from an ash handle with the twigs from a birch tree tied to the end with thin pieces of willow wood. The wax model for this pendant was painstakingly carved by hand and then cast in sterling silver using the ancient lost wax process. An antiqued finish brings out all the details. The broomstick itself is textured with a woodgrain pattern, finishing with the rounded, cut cross section of the branch at the top.
